Since 1893, the Arizona State Museum has specialized in the American Indian cultures of the Southwest and northern Mexico. The Museum is the oldest anthropology museum in the region. Exhibits and museum collections feature topics and materials from archaeology sites like 10,000 year old Paleo-Indian spear points imbedded in mammoth bones to contemporary tools used by American Indians today such as the solar power project initiated by the Hopi Foundation.

on the University of Arizona campus, just inside the Main Gate, at Park Ave. and University Blvd.

Parking:

Parking is available for a fee at the Main Gate Parking Garage located at Euclid Avenue and First Street. Bus parking can be reserved by calling 621-3710.

The ASM Gift Gallery features American Indian arts and crafts, books, posters, cards, music, videotapes, and educational resources.

Major exhibit themes are prehistoric cultures, archaeology, historic and contemporary American Indian cultures. Arranging a Visit:

Free guided tours are available from early October to early December and mid-February to early May. Self-guided tours are available year-round. Reservations are required for all guided and self-guided tours. Maximum group size is 40.

Grade Levels:
Guided tours are available for K-8.
Self-guided tours available for all age levels.

The Library is open Monday - Friday, 9:30 - 4:30, with materials on the archaeology and ethnology of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. The Archives are available by appointment. 

Teacher in-services are offered periodically. Topics include Project Archaeology: Intrigue of the Past and Paths of Life: American Indians of the Southwest. District credit is available. Call ASM for more information.
